Over three decades ago, GNLD's industry leading Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) was founded by world renowned toxicologist and cancer researcher Dr. Arthur Furst. Internationally regarded as a pioneer in toxicology and cancer researcher, Dr Arthur Furst founded the standard cancer chemotherapy Laboratory and was at the forefront of disease-prevention science for 50 years. Many of his discoveries led to ground-breaking records in GNLD's Products, and in his enormous talent, energy, dedication, and vision are major reasons why year after year, GNLD has delivered such leading-edge products to fulfill genuine human needs.

John R. Miller

Originally an electronics engineer from Silicon Valley, California, Mr. Miller's experience in product science and technology dates back to 1966. Following a brief career at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Moffet Field, California, he switched career paths and moved into product manufacturing. His experience leading to his current position as Vice President of Science and Technology includes manufacturing administration, domestic and international product development, and international research and marketing for GNLD International.
In his 40 years of experience, Mr. Miller has researched, developed, and marketed more than 500 products in more than 50 countries. He works closely with the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) in Washington, D.C. (and is currently a member of their Senior Scientific Advisory Council) and the Direct Sales Association (DSA) to support the health and business interests of GNLD and its distributors. He is also a member of the New York Academy of Sciences and the Society of Cosmetic Chemists.
Mr. Miller's ongoing concerns include issues that influence the direct sales and health products industries, particularly health claims regulations, promoting health awareness, protecting freedom of choice, and helping to protect our environment. An excellent communicator, Mr. Miller is noted for his ability to adapt highly technical scientific material into easily understood language.

Dr. Diane E. Clayton
Ph.D. Biochemistry
Nutrition Complementary Health Practitioner
Dr. Clayton earned her B.S. degree in Biochemistry from the University of Bath in the United Kingdom and her Ph.D. in Biochemistry with Nutrition from the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. Dr. Clayton has extensive international experience in both Research and Development within the nutritional healthcare industry.
Dr. Clayton's early research investigated the effects of food processing on trace element metabolism, particularly zinc and iron. Later, she worked as Director for Health and Functional Nutrition for one of the leading companies in Consumer Healthcare. At this time Dr. Clayton led the teams for ingredient research and development of products, including weight management products, sport and nutritional drinks, and infant and maternal nutrition. Dr. Clayton has numerous publications and patents to her name and has recently established herself as a health practitioner in Nutritional Therapy and Phytotherapy. Dr. Clayton believes strongly in the role and importance of complementary medicine as part of the overall approach to healthcare. Dr. Clayton has extensive contacts within the international scientific community and is a member of several Nutrition Research Societies as well as the International Society for the Study of Fatty Acids and Lipids.
Fluent in English and French, and also speaking good German, Dr. Clayton believes that nutritional education plays a key role in our global community, enabling the individual to make the right choices concerning food choice and lifestyle.

Arianna Carughi,
PhD, C.N.S.
Nutritional Sciences and Stanford Fellow
Dr. Carughi received her BA in Biology/Ecology and Conservation from Vassar College, a Master of Sciences degree in Human Nutrition from Columbia University, and a PhD in Nutritional Sciences from the University of California at Berkeley. Dr. Carughi holds the title of Fellow at Stanford University and the title of Certified Nutrition Specialist (C.N.S.) from the American College of Nutrition. She has received the Neizer Fellowship from Stanford University and a National Institute of Health (NIH) research grant in experimental nutrition. Working with GNLD, she authored a report in 1993: "Plasma Carotenoid Levels Before and After Supplementation With a Carotenoid Complex" and presented it at the New York Academy of Sciences. This article was published in the highly selective American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in April 1994.
Out of concern that much valuable research was not being put to practical use, Dr. Carughi joined GNLD so that her discoveries could help in the development of life-changing products.. Fluent in English, Spanish, and Italian and with extensive scientific contacts worldwide, Dr. Carughi is particularly passionate about the leading-edge role the Golden NeoLife Diamite SAB plays in facilitating the international exchange of ground breaking nutritional research.

Fred Hooper
PhD.,
Biochemistry, Nutrition
Dr. Hooper earned his B.S. in Biology, Chemistry, and Math from Stephen F. Austin University in Texas, received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Nutrition from Texas A&M University, and conducted postdoctoral research at the Institute for Biomedical Research at the University of Texas. A talented and accomplished communicator, Dr. Hooper is an expert in the field of human nutrition and biochemistry. He taught biochemistry at Texas A&M, Dept. of Biochemistry and Nutrition.
He is credited with numerous scientific publications, studies, articles, abstracts, and presentations in nutrition. A member of the SAB since 1984, Dr. Hooper frequently lectures on nutrition and supplementation throughout the world. Dr. Hooper has participated in research on vitamins, hormones, lipids, and amino acids, and is a noted product formulator. He brings an in-depth understanding of the intricate environment of the individual human cell. Dr. Hooper is dedicated to providing consumers with the "straight talk" information they need to make informed decisions about nutrition. He focuses on exploring how the thousands of synergistic nutrients in natural whole foods nourish, protect, and regenerate cells, and how whole-food supplementation can create optimum nutrition at the cellular level to enhance health and longevity.

Mark Lowman
Director of New Product Development, GNLD International;
Member: American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists
With an educational background in Biological Sciences, Mark Lowman began his career researching and developing phyto-nutriceuticals, specializing in alternative nutrient delivery systems for the horticultural and specialty agricultural industries. Much of this development work focused on polymeric coatings and films and their use to create controlled-release formulations.
In addition to his work with product development, Mr. Lowman became a certified expert in quality control systems, managing quality control and assurance. Mark Lowman has a deep conviction regarding the importance of good nutrition leading to good health. This conviction, combined with his work with phyto-nutriceuticals, led to a natural progression towards the field of human nutrition. Since 1995, Mr. Lowman has been an integral part of GNLD's product development team, following established guidelines to create new products and conducting extensive product testing to assure that the best possible products are available to GNLD customers.
His outstanding skills in both the laboratory and the factory have produced years of successful work with GNLD's Scientific Advisory Board, turning advanced product concepts into functional finished products manufactured and distributed throughout the world. Mr. Lowman has contributed to the development of numerous GNLD products, including Tre-en-en® capsules, the GR2 Control® weight loss products, Salmon Oil Plus©, Full Motion®, and many others. He is a member of the Institute of Food Technologists, the American Chemical Society, and the American Institute of Biological Scientists. Mr. Lowman served on the Botanicals/Quality Standards Committee for the Council for Responsible Nutrition and is a past member of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists.

David Shepherd
PhD Microbial Enzymology
Microbial Chemist, World-renowned Biochemist & Phytochemistry expert
Dr. Shepherd received his B.S. from Durham University (United Kingdom), and his M.S. and Doctorate degrees in Microbial Biochemistry from Manchester University (U.K.). He completed his postdoctoral studies in Microbial Enzymology at the University of California, Davis.
A world-renowned biochemist and expert in phytochemicals, Dr. Shepherd's 20+ years of experience includes 16 scientific publications, 12 patents, and extensive experience in more than 40 international markets as Worldwide Director of Food Beverages for one of the world's largest food companies.
Dr. Shepherd has a broad background in manufacturing and widespread involvement in the European scientific and technical communities. He is an authority on all aspects of food technology, from food biochemistry and raw materials, to food and beverage development, manufacture, and distribution. He is knowledgeable about the history of whole foods, the establishment of a global food supply, and how current market trends affect nutrient diversity and availability.
Dr. Shepherd is a strong believer in natural approaches to health and longevity, and believes that dietary supplementation is essential to achieving long-term good health.

Dr. Gordon W. Newell
Ph.D., F.A.T.S., Biochemistry, Toxicology

Dr. Newell was a world renowned toxicologist, one of only 100 in the world to receive the prestigious recognition of Diplomate from the American Toxicological Society, an honor he shared with Dr. Arthur Furst.
GNLD Emeritus Dr. Gordon Newell Passes On graphicDr. Newell passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, surrounded by his family near his home in Cupertino, California. Dr. Newell was a long-term member of the GNLD Scientific Advisory Board before retiring from active participation in 2007. He was a good friend and fellow researcher of the Founder of the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) - Dr. Arthur Furst, and joined the GNLD team at his suggestion nearly 3 decades ago.
During his time on the SAB Dr. Newell made many contributions that underpinned the GNLD Difference in product performance, quality and safety. Always looking ahead at new developments on the scientific horizon, Dr. Newell continued to give advice and guidance even after retirement.
Dr. Newell received his B.A. in Chemistry and M.S. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin. After completing his graduate studies and a post-doctoral fellowship, Dr. Newell joined Stanford Research Institute as Senior Biochemist. During the next 28 years, he directed the development of one of the first toxicology departments in the United States. His name is inscribed on the Wall of Distinction in the Biochemistry Building in Madison, Wisconsin.
Dr. Newell had held numerous administrative research positions and had directed chemical and environmental research programs in the toxicology of food additives, industrial chemicals, drugs, and pesticides. He had also designed and accredited laboratory research facilities.
Dr. Newell served as Associate Executive Director for the Board of Toxicology and Environmental Health Hazards of the National Research Council/National Academy of Sciences. He later was Senior Program Manager for Health Studies at the Electric Power Research Institute.
Dr. Newell had authored more than 85 technical publications and papers, plus several hundred client-confidential reports. He has been a speaker and participant for numerous national and international scientific meetings, and had served as a member and Chair of many scientific advisory and review committees. He recently was a charter member of the Society of Toxicology and was the organizing chair and first President of the Northern California Chapter of the Society of Toxicology. A renowned scientist, he was recognized for having the longest years of service with the International Society of Toxicologists.
He was past President of the American College of Toxicology and the Environmental Mutagen Society, and a member of the organizing committee for the Society for Risk Analysis.
Dr. Newell was a Fellow and former President of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences, an honorary society with which he had been affiliated since 1981. He was a generous man who welcomed both people from around the world and down the street into his home where there was always a place at the table. A world traveler both professionally, and in leisure, he provided scientific professional services to countries in Africa, Europe and Asia as well as USA. He will long be remembered not only for his lofty academic and scientific achievements but for his great sense of humor and warm, friendly heart.

Laszlo P. Somogyi
PhD
Food Technology, Food Scientist, Nutritionist,
Fellow Institute of Food Technologists
Dr. Somogyi is a consulting food scientist and member of the Industry Advisory Council to the Department of Food Science and Nutrition, University of California, Davis. He was educated at the University of Agricultural Sciences in Budapest, and received his M.S. and Ph.D. from Rutgers University in New Jersey. He then held a postdoctoral research position at the University of California, Davis.
Dr. Somogyi spent 30 years in the food industry, and was a senior food scientist at SRI International (formerly Stanford Research Institute). He has specialized expertise in product development, foods and beverages, ingredients and additives, and the biology, processing and utilization of fruits and vegetables.
Dr. Somogyi is the author of more than 50 scientific papers. He has contributed to and edited a number of food science and technology textbooks. He served on the Editorial Board of the Critical Reviews of Food Science and Nutrition, and conducted research projects for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Dr. Somogyi is a Fellow of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), and was a chairman and "Outstanding Member" of the Northern California chapter. Also, he is a member of the American Association of Cereal Chemists and the American Oil Chemists' Society.

Anjana Srivastava
M.S., MBA
Executive Vice President

Ms. Srivastava brings great academic and professional credentials to the GNLD Scientific Advisory Board. She has a B.S. degree in Life Sciences, an M.S. in Botany, and an MBA with specialization in Marketing − all from premier universities in India. After starting her career in the pharmaceutical industry where she played a key role in managing cardiovascular, anti-ulcerant, NSAIDs, anti-infective and other therapeutic medicines; Ms. Srivastava decided to make the transition from the "sickness" industry to the "wellness" industry. With about 20 years of experience in the Health and Wellness industry, she has conceptualized and directed research & development, clinical study design, as well as marketing initiatives for a wide range of pioneering products that have helped improve the health and lives of countless people around the world. Ms. Srivastava is a strategic leader who is able to leverage her technical and business expertise to convert cutting-edge scientific research into innovative and meaningful product solutions. A frequent speaker at corporate events, Ms. Srivastava is a passionate advocate of GNLD product philosophy that brings together the best of nature and science, and embraces GNLD's uncompromising commitment to scientific research and quality standards.
