1) Temperature

Catfish grow best in warm water between 83-86oF. Catfish can range in water temperature from 75-85oF.

The optimum water temperature for growth is 24–30 oC, but the fish can survive at temperatures from just above freezing to about 38 oC. Growth is reduced at temperatures lower than 18 oC, while feeding activity stops at temperatures below about 10 oC .

2) Flowing water

Catfish water flow is very essential in reducing d level of dirt and pollution of the pond. It reduces the level of ammonia in the pond which in turn makes fish  grow more rapidly with flowing water💦 . Catfish tend to grow faster in large surface area of water such as river where cage based aquaculture culture is possible.

3) Pond balance

Maintaining a balance in your pond is important because if you have fish growing in higher density, it could give rise to toxic water and pollution. Your fish will get sick and grow less. Knowing the dimension of your pond helps a lot in knowing you stocking density.

To calculate your stock density(number of fish to stock per pond), here is d Omooba Haywire formula 😁

Stock density or number of fish to stock per pond = (Pond volume X 28.317) / 15

Pond volume can be know base on ur pond dimension, I know una don forget mathematics, it’s d normal elementary volume of a shape calculation eg Volume of rectangle = Lenght X width X height, if u no still remember oya call ur pikin to help u do d maths 😁

Example if your pond is 16ft by 4ft by 3ft?

Your stock density will be;

(16x4x3x28.317)÷ 15 = 362

4) Fish feed

In a well-balanced pond with good stock density, the natural ecosystem of the pond can feed your fish after you have set up your pond most especially earthen pond. In a fertile land, plants and insects will provide food for your fish.

For rapid growth, use a nutritionally balanced catfish feed. Your catfish fingerlings will grow faster if you feed them regularly in the beginning of production season, they will grow the right size for harvesting. However, feeding too much will result in poor water quality and it will also increase your feeding costs. There are lot oF feed in the market and this has over the years been causing confusion between fish feed manufacturers and fish farmers. In order not to condemn any feed and not to make any feed superior to the other, I will say you feed your fish feed rich in protein for a faster and healthier growth....
